Metropolitan State University's coordinator of GLBT Student Services provides support to all gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students, as well as their families and friends. Through advocacy, academic advising, and educational and social programs, the GLBT Student Services Office is designed to enhance the educational experience of all GLBT students and their allies at Metropolitan State. The GLBT Student Services Office and Resource Center serves the needs of all members of the Metropolitan State community interested in better understanding the GLBT community. The GLBT Resource Center is located on the St. Paul Campus, Founders Hall, Room 137. For more information, call Sidney Smith, GLBT Student Services coordinator, at 651-793-1544.
Ally Training
The Metropolitan State University Ally Training Program began in the spring of 1996 and has trained over one hundred students, staff, and outside community members to be allies to the GLBT community. An ally is a person who works toward combating homophobia, biphobia and heterosexism on both a personal and institutional level. Members of the Metropolitan State community who wish to become recognized allies attend a two-session workshop and are provided with ally buttons and rainbow triangle stickers to display in their offices.
Lavender Bridge Mission Statement
We, the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students of Metropolitan State University hereby form Lavender Bridge. Our organization endeavors to provide a safe, accepting environment for Metropolitan State students through mutual support and informational social activities.
Programs and Activities
Lavender Bridge has evolved into an active organization that offers a variety of opportunities for Metropolitan State GLBT students, their friends, families and allies. Join us and thousands of others as we take part in the Minnesota Aids Walk in May; celebrate at the Twin Cities Pride Festival in June; participate in National Coming Out Day events in October; and collaborate with other student associations within Metropolitan State and outside organization to sponsor films, panel discussions, and other events for the GLBT community and allies.
